Beneath Mt. Ida on the west side of the Rocky Mountain National Park is Timber Lake. It is an appealing place to me because it is a ten mile round trip hike meaning there is some isolation even in the busy season.
A small pine is growing in the damp soil gathered on a peninsula in the central large pool.
An unlikely place for the start of a sapling.
I have been watching it over the years to see how it is doing.
